PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - RCMP in northern Saskatchewan say they had to smash their way into a car involved in a high-speed chase before they were able to make any arrests.

A 17-year-old girl believed to have been driving and a 24-year-old male passenger were to appear in court today to face several charges.

Police say the overnight chase began when officers tried to stop a vehicle leaving the scene of a disturbance.

A spikebelt was used to flatten both front tires, but the driver kept going at speeds of more than 100 km/h before eventually stopping in a ditch.

Officers couldn't see through the tinted windows and the driver refused to get out, so police smashed their way in to find a girl, a

passenger, shotgun shells and a machete.
