A woman remained in RCMP custody Tuesday as investigators spent the day scouring a field south of Saskatoon for evidence in a homicide.

Police were called to the scene, about 10 kilometres south of the city at the intersection of Clarence Avenue and Victor Road, around 8 p.m. Monday. A woman, who was later pronounced dead at Royal University Hospital, was suffering from an injury to her neck. Another woman was taken into custody.

Saskatoon police were the first on scene. Their officers informed RCMP of the incident.

“Saskatoon police located an adult female near the scene and turned that adult female over to us,” RCMP spokesperson Natalie Gray said Tuesday. “She remains in our custody.”

Gray did not clarify the relation between the victim and the woman in custody and would not say whether a weapon was involved in the incident.

“Investigators will continue to follow every lead as it comes in, conduct a thorough investigation and, as I said, our ultimate goal is to determine who is responsible for the death of this adult female.”

No charges had been laid in the incident and the victim’s name had not yet been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
