Saskatoon’s mayor says the city is working to remedy another slumping area along the riverbank.

The bank is slumping on Saskatchewan Crescent East, between 16th Street and 17th Street, and a large chunk of road has collapsed as a result.

“This is nature at work,” Mayor Don Atchison told CTV News on Tuesday. “Consequently, it’s a constant erosion or slumping.”

The city has blocked off the area to traffic.

Atchison says engineers will be brought in to evaluate the slump and to come up with a solution to fix the collapse. City administrators will speak with homeowners.

“The City of Saskatoon has a tremendous investment in that area because there’s sewer lines, there’s water lines, there’s power lines — there’s everything else that goes with it,” Atchison said.

He expects rebuilding work to begin in the late summer or early fall.
