Emotions ran high in provincial court Monday as the family of a man killed outside a Saskatoon bar came face-to-face with the men charged in connection with the death.
Dustin Boulet, 29, died after an altercation outside a 22nd Street bar early Saturday in what is the city’s second homicide of the year.
Nathan Joseph, 27, is charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault while Estevan Fuenzalida, 24, is charged with accessory after the fact to both murder and assault.
Both men were remanded in custody and will appear in court again on Thursday.
Police have released few details about the incident but Chad Boulet, Dustin’s brother, has said he believes Dustin was trying to break up a fight.
“He would give the shirt off his back to anybody. From what I gather he died breaking up a fight. He was stabbed breaking up a fight,” Chad said.
Chad Boulet and other family members and supporters were in court Monday for the first appearance of the two men accused in the case.
Police were called to a business on the 2400 block of 22nd Street West shortly after midnight Saturday where officers found three injured males. All three men were taken to hospital, with Dustin Boulet later dying of his injuries.
The other men injured outside the bar were both 30 years old and both suffered non-life threatening injuries. One was released from hospital around noon Saturday while the other remained in serious but stable condition.
