RCMP have made a tragic discovery in a burned out home near Yellow Creek, east of Saskatoon.

Police say they discovered the remains of two people around 1:15 p.m. on Friday. Police say a positive identification of the bodies is not possible at this point. The remains have been sent to Saskatoon for an identification autopsy, although when the autopsy will be done is not yet known.

Wakaw RCMP received a call about the fire Thursday morning, but they said they believe the fire actually started Wednesday night.

The married couple who live in thouse, Steve and Marlene Tokarchuck, are unaccounted for. Neighbours described them as kind and well-liked by the tight-knit community.

The house was nearly destroyed when firefighters arrived on the scene Thursday morning. The Yellow Creek volunteer fire department extinguished the smouldering rubble. But on Thursday the rubble was still too hot for investigators to enter. Police do not believe the fire was suspicious.
