An inmate found dead in his Prince Albert jail cell in November was facing second-degree murder charges.

19-year-old John Custer was found dead in his cell Nov. 24, said the province’s chief coroner, Kent Stewart.

No foul play was involved, Stewart added.

Custer was facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 40-year-old Heather Ballantyne of Pelican Narrows.

Ballantyne’s autopsy determined she died of strangulation.

Stewart said a coroner’s inquest will be launched into Custer’s death.
