Four people are dead after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday east of Saskatoon.

RCMP say two officers found a car on its roof in a slough while they were travelling on Highway 5, 50 kilometres east of the city, around 4 p.m.

Mounties say it appears the car lost control and went into the ditch before rolling into the slough. The vehicle was submerged to the top of the windows.

Four people – two women and two men – all believed to be from Saskatoon, were found dead in the vehicle. One of the men is in his 70s and the other man is in his 80s.

No names have been released.

The highway was closed between St. Denis and Highway 2 from about 6 p.m. until after 10 p.m. while police investigated.

RCMP are working to determine the cause of the crash, with the assistance of the coroner’s office.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted on the female driver of the vehicle.
