Five men are facing dozens of charges in connection with a home invasion and assault that took place earlier this summer on the Yellow Quill First Nation east of Saskatoon.

A total of 61 charges -- including counts of assault with a weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm and breaking and entering -- have been filed against the men.

The charges result from an incident Aug. 1 when a group of people surrounded a house on the first nation located near Kelvington. The group eventually gained accesses to the home and sprayed the occupants with mace. At least one gunshot was fired during the incident and one man was suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, RCMP said in a news release at the time of the incident.

Three men were taken into custody the day after the incident: Clarence Kittiekaywinnie, 29, and Christopher Aaron Lee Taniskishayinew, 33, both of the Yellow Quill First Nation, along with Alvin Lyle Taniskishawinew, 34, of Rose Valley. All three have made their first court appearance.

A fourth man, Conrad Kittiekaywinnie, was arrested Sept. 4 following an unrelated incident in which a male driver purposely collided with two police vehicles in an attempt to avoid police near Archerwill.

The fifth man facing charges in the case, Curtis Kittiekaywinnie, 31, of Saskatoon remains at large.
