A gun-carrying robbery suspect was disarmed early Friday morning after an employee at the targeted business hit the suspect with a metal rod, police say.

Officers responded to the robbery at a business on Warman Road and Assiniboine Drive at 12:20 a.m. Police say officers were told a masked man pointed what appeared to be a handgun at an employee and forced his way through the business’s backdoor.

A fight between the employee and the suspect ensued, and the employee disarmed the suspect by hitting him with a rod, police said in a media release.

The employee was unharmed.

Police said the suspect, who fled empty handed in a brown four-door car, may have been injured and may seek medical attention. He’s described as 6-2 and between 35 and 45 years old, according to police.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 306-975-8300 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The gun seized at the scene was a BB gun, police said.
