An 18-year-old accused of killing La Ronge restaurant owner Simon Grant has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Austin Bird entered the plea in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday.

The 64-year-old Grant died in hospital April 17, two days after an armed robbery at his restaurant, Louisiana’s Bar B Que. RCMP said he was assaulted by three suspects during the robbery.

Bird is set to return to court in October. The defence is asking for a five-year sentence. The Crown wants a sentence of eight years.

Two youth and another man are also facing charges in the death.
