Saskatchewan has a lot of wide open highway – 26,000 kilometers to be exact. This year, the provincial budget includes $576 million to build, maintain, and operate Saskatchewan’s open roads.

The 2013-14 budget includes $168.1 million to fix up the province’s highways, with money already designated for upgrades to Highway 15 east of Highway 11, upgrading Highway 22 from Southey to Earl Grey, and paving the Dalmeny Access Road on Highway 305.

Another $86.3 million has been set aside to repave roughly 280 kilometers of highway.

Given Saskatchewan’s growth and the government’s vision of surpassing a million people by 2020, they’ve also invested $63.6 million for major multi-year projects, including a new overpass at Highway 1 in Regina.

The latest budget puts the government over halfway to meeting their four year promise to invest $2.2 billion into highways over four years.
