A century-old landmark has almost disappeared in Saskatoon.
The final span of the old Traffic Bridge came down Thursday afternoon.
Two large track hoes gave one last push to the steel girders, knocking down the span. Explosives, which were used to take down the bridge’s other spans, were not used.
Crews are now tasked with removing the twisted metal from the berm — a task expected to take about two weeks.
The bridge, which opened in 1907, was permanently closed in 2010.
A new Traffic Bridge is scheduled to open in 2018. Crews completed one span of the new bridge a few weeks ago.
