Flags at police headquarters in both Saskatoon and Regina have been lowered to half-mast in response to the shooting in Dallas.

“This is a tragedy felt by every member of law enforcement,” said police chief Clive Weighill, who is also president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. “This incident shows the dangers faced by police officers in the course of their duties.”

This incident follows the 10th anniversary of the deaths of two RCMP officers near Spiritwood.

Constables Robin Cameron and Marc Bourdages were killed by gunfire while responding to a call near Spiritwood on July 7, 2006.

“We honour their names just as we will honour the names of the victims of the shooting in Dallas, Texas,” Weighill said.

“Your friends north of the border stand with you,” the Saskatoon Police Service tweeted Friday morning.
