A house destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning was vacant at the time of the blaze, according to the Saskatoon Fire Department.

Fire crews were called shortly after 4:30 a.m. to 117 Avenue S North in the city's Mount Royal neighbourhood. Heavy smoke and fire were coming through the home’s front door when firefighters arrived.

Crews first tackled the blaze from inside the home but were forced to move outside when the roof became unstable.

The fire was under control within 40 minutes of crews’ arrival, according to a fire department media release.

Damage to the home is estimated at $175,000.

An investigator was still inspecting the scene as of early Saturday morning.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
