A Western Hockey League player diagnosed with meningitis is in critical condition in a Saskatoon hospital, according to the league and his family.

Tim Bozon, a 19-year-old forward with the Kootenay Ice, was diagnosed with Neisseria meningitis after he was admitted to Royal University Hospital Saturday. The Ice played the Saskatoon Blades Friday night.

Bozon’s parents, who are from Switzerland, arrived at the hospital Sunday.

“Tim’s parents, Phillippe and Helene Bozon, have been with him at the hospital in Saskatoon since arriving on Sunday,” read a press release from the WHL. “The family has indicated to the WHL that Tim’s condition is critical.”

"Our Timmy is keeping fighting. . . . Thank you so much for your wonderful wishes," Bozon's parents wrote on their son's Twitter account.

The Saskatoon Health Region said it's working to ensure anyone who had direct contact with Bozon receives appropriate treatment. Players on the Kootenay Ice, the Saskatoon Blades and several other WHL teams are being offered antibiotics.

Bozon, a Montreal Canadiens prospect, scored his 33rd goal of the season Friday night against the Blades.
