Adam Stachelek is a part-time Saskatoon resident and spends the rest of his time in Boston. Thursday night, he was only a few blocks away from the shooting on the MIT campus.

“I certainly saw the emergency vehicles screaming towards that part of Cambridge and the street I’m staying on seeming to be the staging ground for fire trucks for a period of last night,” Stachelek said in a Skype interview with CTV Saskatoon.

Stachelek is three blocks away from where the MIT officer was killed. Friday morning, a robocall informed him subways and buses were not running, and people should stay inside. His downtown office was also closed.

Like many, Stachelek has been glued to the television and social media to try and find out what’s going on.

“It’s disconcerting. This is a big city and I’ve never felt directly threatened through any of this because I haven’t been close enough, but this is just too close for comfort, he said.

Stechelek is married to a woman from Saskatoon, and he said he’d much rather be with her than in the middle of the crisis in Boston. His wife is supposed to fly to Boston this weekend, but now Stechelek is wishing it was the other way around.

“I love being in Boston but it would be a little less harrowing to be back in Saskatoon this week,” he said.
