The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the death of a CN Rail employee following an incident at Saskatoon's Chappell Yards.
Paramedics and MD Ambulance responded to a call at the yards around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. A 51-year-old man was found on scene with life-threatening injuries.
He suffered cardiac arrest while being rushed to Royal University Hospital and later died. The Teamsters Union, which represents CN Rail conductors, identified the man as Kevin Timmerman.
“The Teamsters Union, which represents Canadian National (CN) conductors, would like to express its sincere condolences to the family of Kevin Timmerman who lost his life after an incident at a rail yard in Saskatoon on Thursday night,” the union wrote in a media release Friday afternoon.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the conductor who died in this tragic accident,” added Roland Hackl, vice-president of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference.
The Melville man was a conductor who had been with CN for close to 29 years, according to a Canadian Press report.
Two TSB investigators were sent to the scene Friday morning. Details on what led to the death are limited.
