Fourteen people are displaced after an apartment fire in Saskatoon Thursday evening.

Fire crews were called just after 6:30 p.m. to 1113 Northumberland Avenue in the city’s Massey Place neighbourhood.

A number of 911 callers reported smoke coming from the top floor of the building. Residents were vacating the building as fire crews arrived.

The fire department said in a media release that flames were under control in less than an hour.

Fire damage extended from one suite on the third floor to the roof of the building, the department said. Floors below suffered smoke and water damage.

“Fourteen tenants in total were displaced and have had to seek alternate refuge as a result of the fire,” according to the fire department.

Total damage from the blaze is estimated at $600,000.
