There is an update in the search for missing Saudi student Hamza al Sharief.

Al Sharief disappeared without a trace back in December. He left his wallet, passport, and cell phone in his apartment. But Saturday afternoon, a search was conducted along the riverbank of the South Saskatchewan River.

Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services are not commenting on the search. Police are also remaining tight lipped, but a spokesperson does confirm it was related to the missing University of Saskatchewan student.

There is no word on what prompted the search, but a private investigator tells CTV News al Sharief used to walk along the paths beside the riverbank. Anyone with information regarding the disappearance is asked to call police.
