High school students had the chance to speak out about issues facing youth when it comes to crime and Safety on Friday.
“Speak out Saskatoon” is a forum put on by Saskatoon Crime Stoppers that gives students the chance to discuss the crime and safety issues in their schools and communities. Around 125 students from nine different high schools gathered at E.D. Freeman Catholic School to hear speakers.
Students will also break into groups to discuss the same issues with their peers before presenting their thoughts to a panel of representatives from the community, including Police Chief Clive Weighill, and Dean Newton, the superintendent of the Saskatoon Public School Board.
“Youth are our future leaders in the community and if we can get people engaged now and thinking about these issues, then maybe we can come up with some solutions that will work,” said Constable William Bergeron.
The students participating in the forum were specially selected from each high school to provide a diverse representation of their student body.
