Saskatoon police are warning people about a series of fraudulent calls from someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Police say they have received 20 reports in the last few days from people who have received the phone calls. The caller claims that taxes are owed, and uses threatening language to frighten the recipient into paying the fake debt through credit card or money transfer.

The CRA is reminding Canadians that they never requests prepaid credit cards, never ask for information about your passport, health card, or drivers licence, and will never leave personal information on your answering machine, or ask you to leave a message containing personal information on an answering machine.

If you receive such a call, police and the CRA encourage you to hang up immediately, and report it to Saskatoon police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
