BLUE RIVER, B.C. — An avalanche that buried two men in B.C. has claimed the life of a 36-year-old man from Lloydminster, Sask.

Clearwater RCMP say the men were buried Friday in a slide that occurred in the back of Red Sands Mountain near Blue River, B.C., located about halfway between Kamloops and Jasper, Alta.

Police say a group of snowmobilers were in the area and rushed to dig out the two men.

One man was immediately rescued, but the second died of his injuries.

Emergency crews were unable to get to the site Friday night due to a high risk of avalanches.

The BC Coroners is now investigating the death.

This death is the third avalanche fatality in a week in B.C.’s mountains.

A 29-year-old from Crawford, B.C. was killed Tuesday while snowmobiling between Nelson and Kimberley in Gray Creek Pass.

A 34-year-old Adrian John Cleary of Come By Chance, Nfld. died March 9 in a slide while snowmobiling east of Vernon.
