North Battleford prepared for the worst, closing a water treatment centre and sandbagging a care centre, but Wednesday night the city received some welcome news: the North Saskatchewan River has peaked, and the water is beginning to back down.
Water lapped up against the closed treatment plant, but officials said no damage was done to the facility. Still, as a precaution, the city is keeping in closed. A ban on outdoor watering remains in effect while the water treatment center is out of commission.
The 7,000 sandbags surrounding the Battlefords District Care Centre will also stay up as a precautionary measure.
Residents are still being advised to steer clear of the river, but a spokesperson for the city said conditions are improving.
