One man is dead after a confrontation on a rural Saskatchewan property led to gunfire, RCMP say.

The incident occurred Tuesday at about 5:30 p.m. in the rural municipality of Glenside, near Biggar, according to Mounties.

Five people drove onto a rural property but were confronted by the property owners, who were outside. The owners did not know the people in the vehicle. A verbal exchange occurred as the owners attempted to get the vehicle to leave, and a gun was fired.

An occupant of the vehicle was shot, RCMP stated in a media release. Emergency services were called, and a man was declared dead at the scene.

Another man — a man “associated to the property,” according to police — was arrested on scene while three people who were in the vehicle were taken into custody.

Mounties say the three — a man, a woman and a girl — were taken into custody as part of a theft investigation related to the incident. One boy is still being sought by police.

No charges have been laid as of early Wednesday afternoon.

An autopsy is set for later this week to confirm the deceased’s identity.

The RM of Glenside is located west of Saskatoon, just north of Biggar.
