A hotel clerk was sent hospital after being shot through the hand during an attempted robbery Thursday night.

The clerk was shot during a struggle with a 30-year-old man who entered a downtown hotel armed with a handgun and attempted to rob the front desk at approximately 10:30 p.m., Saskatoon police said in a news release.

Customers and other staff became involved, disarming the suspect and holding the man for police.

The victim and the suspect both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
