Highway 2 north of Prince Albert is closed because of the Little Red River has washed out a portion of the road approximately 8 kilometers north of the city.

RCMP said the bridge itself is fine, but the ground underneath the south bound lane is eroding, causing the lane to collapse.

A detour is set up on Highway 55 East past the pulp mill. It goes north on the road known locally as “Pulp Haul Road”, and returns to Highway 2 near Spruce Home on the north side of the washout.

The Department of Highways is working on putting up signs in the area, and RCMP said the closure will likely last for a longer period of time.
