Saskatoon is under a fog advisory on Monday, creating slippery conditions for commuters and last-minute Christmas shoppers.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says dense fog is being reported over most of the prairies this morning. It’s expected to thin out over the day, but could persist in many areas and redevelop into the evening.

The federal weather service is cautioning drivers that visibility is highly variable moment-to-moment in these conditions.

“Motorists should be prepared to deal with areas of near-zero visibility, even if conditions at the moment are good,” Environment Canada said in an advisory at 6:23 a.m. Monday.

The Saskatchewan Highway Hotline also said as of Monday morning that visibility was reduced on most highways into and out of the city due to fog.

Around noon, the wind is expected to shift to the west and break the fog.

Saskatoon can expect to reach a high of minus 3 C today, which could feel like minus 8 C in the wind. Tonight, the forecast calls for a low of minus 11 C, with the fog returning.
