A 39-year-old man is in Saskatoon police custody following a chase Tuesday night that ended with a burning car rolling down 33rd Street.

A police patrol unit spotted a vehicle around 9 p.m. officers believed contained a person wanted on criminal warrants.

The driver took off from police after officers attempted to pull over the car at 22nd Street and Confederation Drive. The car struck another vehicle near John A. Macdonald Road, which started a fire in the suspect car and caused the other vehicle to hit a light post and parked car.

Police continued to follow the suspect vehicle and next spotted it burning and rolling down 33rd Street without a driver. A female passenger was still inside the car.

The vehicle struck a city bus in the 3200 block of 33rd Street before finally coming to a stop. The passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but the driver fled the scene on foot.

The 39-year-old was taken into custody Wednesday morning.
