City officials are warning Saskatoon residents to watch out for a person posing as a city water-meter inspector.

Police say someone with identification for a company called HomeSecur is asking to enter homes to inspect water meters on behalf of the city.

“This company is not working on behalf of the City of Saskatoon,” police said in a media release.

A resident who refused to allow the alleged scammer into their home brought the issue to the city’s attention.

The city may require access to water meters at times, but employees will either attempt to make an appointment beforehand or have City of Saskatoon identification and a marked city vehicle, according to police.

If a person is unsure about the identity of a city water employee, they are encouraged to call Saskatoon Water at 306-975-2538.

Police say they're not sure if HomeSecur is a legitimate company.
