Saskatoon Transit riders can now track their buses on their phones.
The city launched a new transit website Thursday that includes real-time bus tracking.
“Having access to real-time information has the potential to transform the ridership experience,” said Colleen McKee, the city’s transportation and utilities communications manager.
Buses were equipped with GPS units that allow riders to see online how far their bus is from their stop.
The new website also features enhanced trip-planning tools and access to service alerts, the city said. The site is optimized for mobile viewing.
“Our customers have told us that mobile devices are the preferred technology,” said McKee.
A new Twitter account — @stoontransit — was also launched Thursday. The account will be monitored by the same team that responds over the phone to ridership questions, the city said.
