Saskatchewan provincial park campsites are not yet full for the May long weekend.
“Campsites are still available, but availability varies by park,” said Karen Webb, a spokesperson for the ministry of parks, culture and sport.
The Pike Lake campsite near Saskatoon, for example, is 94 per cent booked for May 20, according to Webb.
She recommends booking early to avoid disappointment at the gate, but notes some parks operate “overflow” campgrounds.
“So even in a very full park, we should still be able to accommodate you,” she said.
The parks with the top bookings are Great Blue Heron, Echo Valley, Danielson, Douglas and Pike Lake, according to Webb. Cypress Hills, Moose Mountain, Greenwater Lake and Meadow Lake have the most campsite capacity.
Availability can depend on the park’s amount of campsites.
Saskatchewan provincial parks officially opened for the summer season on May 18.
An alcohol ban is in place at all provincial parks until Monday.
