Saskatchewan’s largest saw mill has been reopened.
Premier Brad Wall and Economy Minister Bill Boyd announced the Big River mill’s reopening Tuesday.
The saw mill, located in Big River, about 130 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert, will directly employ up to 100 workers and account for more than 40 per cent of the province’s lumber production capacity.
The premier said the reopening will help the province regain market share in the United States and Asian countries.
More than 250 additional jobs are expected to be created through contracts in timber harvesting, trucking, road construction and reforestation.
The mill is owned by Carrier Forest Products.
