RCMP in Battlefords are searching for a teenaged suspect after a 16-year-old boy was viciously beaten early Sunday morning.

A 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were reportedly walking home in the 1900 block of 110th Street at 1:30 a.m. when they were approached by several males. The two boys were attacked with bear spray without warning.

The 14-year-old managed to escape and call 9-1-1, but the 16-year-old was caught and severely beaten.

When police arrived on scene, the 16-year-old was found with life-threatening injuries. He was stabilized at the Battlefords Union Hospital and then taken to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Police say he is still in hospital in serious but stable condition.

Battlefords RCMP have charged a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy with aggravated assault and various weapons-related charges. They are set to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday.

RCMP have also issued an arrest warrant for a 16-year-old boy from North Battleford in connection with this incident.

Police say the victims and the accused knew each other, but there was no previous history between them. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
