Animal lovers are banding together to mourn the deaths of three pet dogs recently killed in rural Saskatchewan.

A candle light vigil happened Tuesday night at the Sutherland off-leash dog park in memory of the dogs that were found dead earlier this month along the side of a rural road near the village of Pleasantdale, south of Melfort.

Reports say one of the dogs was run over by a vehicle while two others were shot. The dogs were owned by a couple who lives in the area.

Organizers said the vigil was a chance for dog owners and dogs to get to know each other and discuss animal safety.

Some of the vigil’s participants are asking people to contact their MP or provincial MLA to ask for broader animal cruelty laws.

The case is under investigation by RCMP.
