An 18-year-old woman is in hospital after being pulled from a burning house on the Sweetgrass First Nation.

She was pulled from the residence by another member of the community who, with his daughter, noticed flames late Monday night through the home’s windows. The two were driving past the house when they saw the fire.

“The community members, a father and daughter, called 911, then went to the door of the residence and called out to see if anyone was inside the house,” an RCMP media release read.

The pair heard coughing, which prompted the father to enter the house, find the 18-year-old and pull her to safety.

“The other residents of the house arrived on scene and confirmed there was no one else inside,” police said.

The woman pulled from the home was taken to hospital in North Battleford before she was moved to a Saskatoon hospital. Police have not yet released details on the extent of her injuries; a media release said her injuries were undetermined.

The house was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Sweetgrass First Nation is located west of the Battlefords.
