A three-vehicle collision involving a police SUV sent one woman to hospital with serious injuries Thursday morning.

Martensville and Warman RCMP were called to the scene just north of Saskatoon on Highway 11 around 9 a.m. A Corman Park police vehicle travelling on Highway 11 collided with a blue 2005 Saturn sedan attempting to cross the highway on a grid road.

The police vehicle then hit an SUV that was trying to pass it.

The Warman fire department was called to extract the 21-year-old female driver from the sedan and MD Ambulance transported her to hospital in serious condition.

The police officer sustained minor injuries while the driver of the SUV was unharmed and able to drive away from the scene.

Saskatoon police were also called to the scene. Officers used a flying drone to capture overheard pictures of the crash.

Cpl. Rheal Lachance of the Warman RCMP detachment said investigators would be very thorough inspecting the scene.

“We will be extremely thorough. We will be checking everything, checking the brakes on all vehicles,” he said. “We will know exactly what happened when it’s all over.”

Traffic was being detoured from the scene as police investigated the crash. Police said in a media release they expect the road to open at 1 p.m.
