A mechanical failure in a CN Rail train created quite the sight near Saskatoon’s Diefenbaker Park Thursday night.
CTV viewers sent photos of sparks and flames shooting from the top of a Canadian National Railway train as the train moved across the CN bridge and ran beside Circle Drive. A spokesperson with the rail company said a mechanical failure forced the train to shut down and be taken back to the CN yard for inspection and repair.
No one was injured.
The Saskatoon Fire Department said fire crews did not receive any calls of a train on fire, but noted crews did respond to a grass fire in the area, near the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club.
It’s unknown if the grass fire is connected to the flames and sparks from the train.
