Careless disposal of smoking materials is being blamed for a fire that caused an estimated $10,000 in damage early Wednesday.

Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services says crews were called at 4:15 a.m. to a house in the 100 block of Wesolowski Cove.

Firefighters arrived to find the residence filled with smoke and two occupants of the home outside.

The source of the smoke was identified as coming from a mattress in an upstairs bedroom, where firefighters were able to contain the blaze.

The home sustained smoke and water damage but no one was injured in the incident.
