Saskatoon police Chief Clive Weighill has been elected president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

The national body unanimously elected Weighill as president at its annual conference Tuesday in Victoria.

Weighill replaces Vancouver Police Department Chief Constable Jim Chu as president, the association said in a media release. Chu was president for two years.

“I would like to thank Chief Constable Chu for his outstanding leadership and dedication as President,” Weighill said. “He has made his mark in refocusing the CACP’s efforts towards consultation, advocacy, professionalism and sustainability, essentially setting a new path for police leadership well into the future.”

Weighill served 31 years with the Regina Police Service before joining the Saskatoon police in 2006.
