Starting in May 2013, anyone using a phone in Saskatchewan will have to dial ten numbers.

The CRTC announced Friday that the province will be adding a new area code, and the province will be moving to 10-digit dialing. The new code will be 639.

The switch will come in February of 2013 and be mandatory by May 11. The new area code will take effect later, on May 25, but only for new numbers. Callers with the current 306 number will keep it.

The changes result following a study that predicted Saskatchewan would likely run out of phone numbers by August 2013.
