After 22 years of secrecy surrounding its whereabouts, an important piece of Metis history is ready to go public again.

The bell of Batoche was taken by soldiers from the church at Batoche after the Northwest Rebellion in 1885.

For many years it was kept in a Legion hall in Millbrook, Ont., but it vanished 1991.

Now, the Winnipeg Free Press is reporting the Union Nationale Metisse Saint-Joseph du Manitoba will announce this week its plan to unveil the repaired bell.

Organizers will not say if the bell has been located and are not doing interviews until Friday's announcement, but there's speculation that the unveiling will take place during Back to Batoche Days in mid-July.
