Three people have been charged after an inmate allegedly escaped from the Riverbend Correctional Institution near Prince Albert on Tuesday night.

Saskatoon police and Mounties began searching for the 22-year-old man after he reportedly escaped from the institution with the help of two others. The three were believed to be traveling in a vehicle to Saskatoon.

Police located the vehicle just before midnight on Highway 41 just outside the Saskatoon city limits. A road block was established, and police performed a high-risk vehicle stop and arrested the occupants.

The 22-year-old inmate was charged with escape from lawful custody. A 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were charged with an offence for assisting in an escape.
