A man is expected to face impaired driving charges after a woman and her five-year-old son are dead after a two-vehicle collision Sunday night on Highway 11 north of Hague.

A car was travelling northbound in the wrong lanes on the twinned portion of Highway 11 at 8:30 p.m. Sunday when it struck a southbound SUV carrying a family of four people, Rosthern RCMP said in a news release.

MD Ambulance said a woman died at the scene of the crash while a five-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and died while en route to Royal University Hospital.

The father of the family travelling in the SUV was taken to hospital with serious injuries while a two-year-old girl was transported to hospital in stable condition, according to MD Ambulance.

RCMP said the driver of the northbound car is expected to recover after being injured in the crash, but will likely be charged with impaired driving.
