A man and woman are facing more than 20 charges after a lengthy police chase across Saskatoon.

Police officers noticed the suspicious vehicle early Tuesday morning — at about 1:40 a.m. — stopped in a back alley at 21st Street and Avenue U South. The vehicle fled immediately as soon as officers approached, police said in a media release.

A brief chase ensued before a police plane spotted the vehicle. Officers in the plane relayed information to patrol officers on the ground. Repeated attempts to stop the vehicle using spike belts failed, police said.

The plane continued to track the vehicle, and at the corner of 19th Street and Avenue C, a gun — which was later recovered by patrol officers — was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver and passenger eventually fled the vehicle on foot in the city’s Adelaide/Churchill neighbourhood. One was arrested on the 1000 block of Third Street East and the other was apprehended on the 110 block of Second Street East.

The pair — a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman — are charged with evading police, dangerous driving, as well as several drug- and firearm-related offences.

They appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday.
