Saskatoon Police have a 28-year-old man in custody after a five hour standoff Friday night.

Members of the Guns and Gangs Unit responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a home in the 3800 block of John A. MacDonald Road. Police said they had an arrest warrant for a 28-year-old man inside for an assault that took place last month.

When officers arrived the man refused to leave the home and barricaded the door with furniture, police said.

After continued negotiations, police were able to make contact with the suspect who at one point armed himself with a large butcher knife.

The Tactical Support Unit was called in due to a weapon being involved.

The man surrendered and was taken into custody just after 10:30 p.m. There is no word on charges.

No one was injured.
