A 26-year-old man was sentenced to two years in a federal penitentiary Thursday after pleading guilty to a fatal crash that killed a Saskatoon teen last year.

Robin Tyler John, from the Duck Lake area, pleaded guilty in Saskatoon provincial court Thursday to impaired driving causing death and obstruction of justice for his role in the death of 17-year-old Quinn Stevenson.

Stevenson was killed in a collision Aug. 3, 2013 at the intersection of Circle Drive and College Drive. He was driving to work at a local golf course at the time of the crash.

Court heard John was driving a vehicle that ran a red light and struck Stevenson’s vehicle. The 17-year-old died at the scene.

John was charged in early September after a lengthy police investigation.

The investigation, termed Project Bluejay, involved major crime and traffic officers, members of the street gang unit, polygraph unit, special investigations unit and community liaison unit, as well as Rosthern RCMP.
