Icy roads wreaked havoc across Saskatoon Saturday.

The city — along with much of the province — was hit with freezing rain in the morning, which left roads slippery and contributed to numerous collisions.

Saskatoon police issued a media release around 8:30 a.m. warning the public to drive carefully.

“Reduce speed and increase the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Be aware of the fact that stopping distances increase on slippery surfaces,” the release stated.

Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline did not recommend travel in the area as well as in the province’s North Battleford and Meadow Lake regions.
