Dozens of people were forced out of their homes on Thursday night after a fire at an apartment building on the 2000 block of 22 Street West.

Crews were called to the scene around 11:00 p.m. When they arrived, people were fleeing the building as the hallways filled with smoke.

Firefighters extinguished a fire on a stairway landing and cleared the building of smoke before allowing residents back inside.

Fire investigators have determined that the fire was deliberately set; damages are pegged at $10,000.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, but the fire department says it’s a good reminder to have an practice a safe fire escape plan.
