Saskatoon residents will face a higher property tax and larger parking fines.

Saskatoon city council finalized plans Monday to deal with a $9-million budget shortfall.

Councillors voted on recommendations made earlier this month to offset the deficit, which was left after the provincial budget increased PST by one per cent and cut millions of dollars in grants paid in lieu of taxes by SaskEnergy and SaskPower.

Councillors agreed at a meeting April 10 not to dip into reserves. On Monday, council approved raising property taxes by 0.93 per cent, increasing the price of parking tickets, increasing return on investment from water utilities, deferring the snow and ice levy, and freezing city staff wages, among other recommendations.

The parking ticket increase raises fines from $20 to $30.
