An 18-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after a collision in Fond du Lac left one pedestrian dead and another injured.

RCMP say officers responded to the crash at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Two women walking southbound on the right side of the road were struck from behind by a truck.

Twenty-year-old Delaine Lidguerre, from Fond du Lac, was taken to the northern Saskatchewan community’s medical clinic and later pronounced dead. Another woman, a 24-year-old also from the community, was taken to hospital. Mounties did not know the extent of her injuries.

The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of impaired driving causing death and two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

He’s set to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Monday.
